Task
Based on the previous two study tasks, design an appropriate typographic treatment for the book cover of your given book, consisder the following:
• If your adjectives (descriptive words) from your analytical discussion are negative then define the derivative
• Chose a Typeface(s), which is representative of your feedback
• Define a hierachy of information (author/title/subtitle)
• Chose type style/size/alignment appropriate to your above decisions
• Work in only Black and White and at A4 scale
• Purely typographic no symbols or imagery
From the last two tasks I have a few key points;
Firstly that for a book of which surrounds itself around the notion of thinking for the future and planning on the way it does the rough and vintage nature doesn't at all display this. Secondly that through the graphics from the front cover there isn't any obvious links in semiotics to what you should expect to come from a book thats ethos is based around the environment.
For the typeface choice I decided that I wanted to stay with a sans serif font as this accurately display the futuristic sense I am looking for, but the previous typeface was much too slab by and elongated to therefore I decided instead to use Gotham Bold due to its shorted X-Height and slightly more curved nature it is more appropriate for the semiotics I am trying to display.
As far as the hierarchy of type for the book cover I believe that the title of the book has to be the most crucial part and therefore the biggest. The title is made up of the actual name of the book and a little subheading, I chose to keep the type size the same but instead to add more attention to the actual name of the book by putting this part capitalised, with the order already chose for the heading and subheading all that is left was to add the name of the authors smaller than the other text to complete the hierarchy.
Finally due to the minimal use of information on my type only version of the book cover I decided to use a centrally aligned layout as this was the best use of the space on the page and still remaining to not look too odd with too much white space.  As it was picked out in my previous analysis there was no obvious enough link to the semiotics that should be displayed  by a book of which surrounds itself with the notion of the environment so I chose to place the title of the book in a circular notion to enforce the sense of re-using an re-juvenation. The balck outline below was only so that the white background could be seen easily.
