OUGD505 - SB2 - Cause Research - Further Idea Development

Now that the list of potential causes that fall in to my areas of interest has been outline, it was time to develop some of the initial outlined ideas in to three well thought and prepared design outcomes of which I would rationale through reasoning and through feedback and decide on one the final idea that will be taken in to the first research side of the module. The three potential and thought out ideas would be consisted of, two aspects/causes that fall within my areas of interest and one final idea of which I have less interest in as a topic but that I still believe in massively.

The three totally different potential causes and therefore design outcomes that were up for evaluation are;

A project of campaign activism centring its whole ethos' and mission around localised farming and more specifically centred around raising awareness on there extent to which that it could improve environmental aspects linked to the farming trade such as emissions and carbon footprint, and then from this to improve awareness by getting people interested in, and then from this supporting the fight to increase localised farming
The campaign would pick up on advertising potentials whether they be using shock factor or being informational to ensure that the campaign inspires people to get involved with the cause acting as a solely distributional means for the cause where as other causes might be more relevantly linked with the sales, in order to act as donation to the cause and what they represent.
Although this is a very important topic, and a cause of which has very important beliefs the interest just isn't there in the topic for me and therefore this could end up too troublesome to research and design for.

The second of the ideas of which could be potentially taken in to the final stages of the project is centres around my interest in skateboarding. Due to the fact that the vast vast majority of skate related content in this day and age goes out online, the only way to really raise any money for the cause would be to sell something, so that the customers are receiving a physical product for their donation to the cause.
The cause would all be centred around the hundreds of laws that prevent people in the UK skateboarding on the streets, even though in this day and age skateboarding is no longer the misunderstood and nuisance causing hobby it once one, it is now a big multi million pound industry within the UK and this needs to be reflected within the laws.
The design outcomes and responses for this project will have to be a designed outcome related to skateboarding of which would be sold, and then the proceeds taken from the sale of the project would be used to help support the cause.

The final idea is all centred around standing against racism, and more specifically pro african-american causes and supporting them as causes. This would then be furthered by then linking this cause to Hip-Hop specifically and running the two main themes of the project side by side.
The project will look at Hip-hop as music of resistance from its creation in the 1970's all the way through to the modern day, with a more specific investment in to the advancement of Hip-Hop through the ages, how it has the potential for resistance/change in the past and in the present and finally how it may have failed along its journey from resistance to popular commercial culture.

Now that the main concepts have been generated, the final step to complete before deciding on which idea to take in the last stage of the project was from the concept idea's to generate an example of what the perfect design resolutions would be, decided to by how appropriately they work with the concept of the ideas.

Due to the nature of the first concept to do with localised farming, the nature of it would be most appropriately suited to a money raising but actually would be much more appropriately pared with a proficient advertising campaign that would inform people with all of the benefits of the cause, and then provide people with a means to get involved with the cause. This advertising campaign would have to include but not be limited to a main focus TV advertisement campaign and then alternative advertising means such as posters, billboards, leaflets and web design that would be aesthetically linked to the TV advertisements to create a well rounded campaign.

The next concept was the skateboarded related cause, due to the nature of skateboarding culture being that content is released for free and is mostly web based, if people were to get involved with the cause or if I was to help by benefiting the campaign the donors would have to be recieving a product for their donation, and would not work like the advertisement campaign mentioned in the earlier idea.
Instead of a advertising means to catch an audience due to the nature of the skateboarding scene instead the outcomes of the project would be more appropriately a zine of which would compile information about the laws related to skateboarding in the UK, general information about skateboarding and then finished off with photojournalism and skateboarding photography. The proceeds taken from the sale of the zine would be used to fight for the cause and could possibly lead on to a day event in which skating the street and not the parks we are confined too, which would also be in the purpose of raising money for the cause.

The final idea around Hip-Hop and its place within African American resistance would take place in the form of a zine also for the final design resolution. The zine would feature multiple different articles centres around Hip-Hop and its development from creation to popular culture. It would then delve in to articles in which Hip-Hop has been used as a means of resistance all over the world and finally through different articles it would asses points in which Hip-Hop has actually deterred its advancements as resistance such as through the commercialisation of a once very expressive art form and the picture that it paints through the lyricism.
