OUGD505 - SB2 - Aesthetic Research - Beat Magazine

For some alternative research the decision was made to look at another magazine of which doesn't relate to Hip-Hop and instead related to a different genre of music, in order to discover how independent magazines for other genres have become successful and the rationale behind the whole process. This is with the intention that the look at another genre will benefit the project by outlining how I could do it for Hip-Hop the way the designers of Beat Magazine do it for popular and indie culture music.

Beat magazine is a perfect point of research as their whole mission statement, it exactly linked in to something of which would be necessary to include within the designing of the publication part of this project. Beat focusses on dismissing the over corporate, commercial music magazines of old and instead challenged this by conveying important music culture information that the people want to hear but while doing this ensuring that the design of the magazine is visually pleasing on a graphic design basis. Unlike magazines like Rolling Stones & Q Magazine; Beat conveys important information, while looking visually pleasing in the delivery.
This is a crucial aspect to learn from as this is very appropriately linked with my design problem as the main focus is to convey the important and crucial Hip-Hop content, but while remaining aesthetically pleasing.
