Due to the nature of the articles used, the main bulk of the photography used within the publication would be taken from the actual articles itself, and where the article wasn't accompanied with photography, imagery would be sourced appropriately to relate to the content.
The photography will act as the first and main means of bringing the gritty as urban aesthetic in to the magazine as with a lot of the magazines research in the earlier stages the balance of contemporary or old/urban aesthetics was constructed through the combination of structure to reflect the modernity and image to reflect the urban aspect.
All images sourced through investigation on the internet were sourced at the highest possibly quality and size to ensure that they are as crisp and clean within the publication as possible, a search feature that only shows large size images would be used to ensure this. This would mean that consistency throughout the design would be met, and the professional aesthetic desired would be ensured. After the sourcing of images at an appropriate size to ensure clarity, all of the images would be resampled within photoshop to ensure that they were at 300dpi, the correct resolution for print to continue the professional aesthetic.
Due to the fact they the majority of the photography had been sourced from professional photojournalism articles this meant that the imagery had already been though a heavy editing process, but in the eventuality that one of the images needed editing at all this was done though editing the images in photoshop to ensure correct aspects such as light levels etc... all this adding further to the professional aesthetic necessary for modernist style design.
Due to the fact that ensuring that the information is easily conveyed through the publication due to the content all centring itself around raising awareness on the topic of black power, more specifically related to Hip-Hop culture, this means that the placing of imagery and photography within the publication was kept simple as its main focus was to illustrate the information. This decision was made because of the fact that if the photography was placed more slightly more expressive, this added emphasis on the imager may take away from the true purpose of the publication, to inform and educate. This simplicity also helps added to the structured and organised desired format.
