For some further continuation of the research it was now time to look away from Hip-Hop for a second and to look at two artists by the names of Ben Drury & Will Bankhead. This research in to them will benefit the development of the project as it gives an insight in to the way that design has worked, within a different music scene thats music has contextual similarities such as resistance music but also design wise shares aesthetic similarity between the two cultures, and this culture is UK Grime music & Culture. Both of the artists in question worked for a multidisciplinary record label names Mowax between 1994/2000 as art directors. Together they gained notoriety for creating striking graphic design, to the point where Mowax album covers became as important as the music they were actually designer for with the release of a new album. Although Mowax were a record company primarily they all ventured in to many other aspects of design such as toys, books, films, art exhibitions and clothing and many other things. Through their times they also collaborated with many other artists within the scene. Going on after Mowax to designing for very big commercial projects such as Nike campaigns and even Dizzie Rascal albums.
Their work continues on in to modern day urban culture through their work with brand such as palace, a modern streetwear company.
Their work encapsulates the very balance of vintage, gritty and urban design with an all over notion of professionalism and modernity that will inspire the design stage of this project. This balance of a modernist and post modernist style pays homage to the contrast between old and new. This high use of graffiti within the work paying homage to the youth culture it belongs within.
