OUGD505 - SB2 - Design Decisions - Publication Size

The publication has the ability to be whatever shape or size that I desire, with as much freedom as possible. Although this is a factor it isn't really that appropriate to this project as this would only really be appropriate if in was informed by a conceptual idea to back up the design decision, but as this project doesn't stipulate for any of this it would be more appropriate to design the publication as a normal paper size, so ensure that the publication looks as much like a published magazine as possible. This opens up a number of sizes that it could be sized at, namely this are A6, A5, A4, A3 etc...

The book will have to hold a large amount of information within it, and so this dictates that the book size shouldn't be too small as this would only hinder the later design stages, by limiting the space within information can be placed. This outlaws anything A6 or smaller as they just wouldn't be big enough for the information. At the opposite side of the spectrum anything A3 or larger would just be too large for the publication as it wouldn't appropriately fit with the style of the publication. It would look more like a newspaper, taking away from the desired aesthetic.
This left A3 & A4 left to decide between, the final decision came off the back off one sole factor, user experience. The decision was made to design the publication at A5 size as it is large enough to hold the masses of information through the use of a large number of pages but still an appropriate size to ensure that there is a proficient ease of reading with it.
