OUGD505 - SB2 - Design Decisions - Typeface Choice

The next stage was to decide on the typefaces that would be used within the construction of the publication. Due to the simplicity that was required in the design, the decision was made that throughout the whole book only one typeface would be used all the way, as other lettering will be used at a later stage though the use of graffiti additions. The reason behind this was that if two were used through the editorial layout stage, when the additional graffiti illustrations are added that work would become over complicated.

Due to the fact that It had already been outlined that only one typeface would be used through the whole designing stage the decision for typeface was might a lot easier, and that decision was a serif style typeface. This decision was made to the fact that legibility and ease of covering information is a vital aspect within this project and so for the masses of body cop, a serif style typeface will be necessary to ensure that it is as legible as possible.

The final decision was which serif style typeface to take forward in the designing stage, although serif style typefaces are usually related to an old aesthetic this opened up another possibility for me to infuse the modern and old aesthetic within the design by choosing a serif style typefaces that embodies vintage aesthetic with a modern take on it, a neo-serif if you would. Her below is the list of possibilities for typeface choices;

Due to the fact that contextual reasons have dictates that a single modern serif style typeface would be chose for the final stages of the designing, between the different typeface it came down to a mostly aesthetic choice, as all of them fitted the criteria necessary. Due to the fact that some of the typefaces would have been economically viable to purchase combined with aesthetic choice the decision was made to use PT Serif as the typeface within the design, as I really enjoyed it aesthetically and it fit all criteria and allowed me to have access to the whole font family for free helping me within the later design stages.
