For the first brief of the
second year I am happy with what I have produced and should give me a
stepping-stone to produce higher quality and better-considered designs.
This brief was a good way
to start the year off as the workload for the project wasn’t anything too
demanding meaning that the unit of the module would get us back in to the frame
of working and also even though it isn’t overly demanding it does still require
a lot of considerations that must be taken care of to answer the brief
correctly and got us thinking about the main focus of the module of which is
the production decisions that are made in a project.
The first aspect of the
module that was beneficial to my growth as a graphic designer as the contents
of the design were based around my process as a designer and how I would go
around tackling a brief. This was a great content to design around for the
first module, as it helped me to analyse the process I which I design and
possible iron out and problems during the process and this is brilliant to
think about as it effected how I went about answering all the briefs of this
design production module and eventually the decision to display my thoughts
process and a flowchart where you can be back and forth until the design is
perfect.
Although I have already
had small experience with the world of designing leaflets this module was still
beneficial for my development as it allowed me to have practice with a much
more advanced consideration in to the actual design of the leaflet. This came through
not only my physical skills and knowledge with advanced leaflet folding
methods, but also with an insight on the how information can be effectively
conveyed to a target audience.
As the displaying of the
information was a crucial aspect of this unit It was important the use research
to its best possibilities to find out effective ways to display this
information. As I mostly only have practice with displaying high levels of
information through something as large as a whole book it helped me massively
with my researching skills as I had to research ways in which high amounts of
information can be conveyed by something as small as a leaflet through
iconography and image.
Overall the unit was a
very good way to start off the year as it helped me with finding myself as a
designer and helping my with how I will develop this year and develop my skills
and assets and furthermore the quality of my work. The actual leaflet that I
designed ended up coming out very well. The flow chart style mixed with the
step-by-step basis of the horizontal roll mailer folded leaflet meant that a
high level of information could be conveyed to the audience while still looking
aesthetically pleasing. The final product was printed to a high standard in a
digital printing facility and on a stock that was light enough to ensure the
production was cheap but also the fold could fold cleanly.
