OUGD504 Studio Brief 03 - Photography Book Research

Below is an example of a number of different photographic art books of which include a very minimalist style in which they display almost full bleed images and almost no type at all. They often include a wide range of very professionally prepared photographs and due to the fact that these book use almost no typography they have a massive emphasis on the positioning and location of image alone and the feeling that they can convey without words, even thought this has given me an insight in to how I could possibly place some images so they they are almost full bleed and take up the majority of the page they don't fully represent that style of book I am looking for as I have the necessity to include high levels of information in my editorial design making them almost invalid as this would be used to display a photographic project rather than a project of which must include accompanying type aswell.

The next example of an art photography based book is this one below, instead of using double page spreads of image and no type like the example above instead every single image page is combined with adjacent typography page creating a type and image double page spread. This is closer to the style of editorial design I will be booking to incorporate in to my work as this gives me the chance to pair the text of the guide with the aesthetically pleasing placement of images to create a great balance between the two.

The final example that I have looked at is the publication below; This is the example of work that I found to have the most aesthetic and content based similarities that I am looking for in my designs, the high amounts of text used to contrast the photography publication style images is very similar to what I want my design to be like although in this example it looks almost too much like a magazine to to the overbearing nature of the text, so my task will be to use placement and grid structure to find a way to position the texts so that they look less like a magazine and instead represent the clean and simple aesthetic of a photography book while still including a lot go information.
