OUGD503 SB1 - Disposable Society - Content Research

As it was initially conveys in the brief for this project, the feature of the design piece should centre itself around the disposable society and more realistically how as a society we are happy to accept that we can throw anything we want away and replace it with something new, and the very damaging negative that this is having on our world and environment and this is a top that I believed in so much and so this is a strong topic for me and hopefully that will transpire in to the actual outcome of the brief.

After some deliberation over the many different topics that my work could surround itself around the decision was made that I would make  look at the mobile phone industry as this pays such a massive part of modern day society and it a hot topic at the moment.

In my work I would like to offer a visual depiction of some statistics that I have discovered and show the extent to which this is having effect and causing our society problems in the long tun, the extent to the problem will be depicted through the visual aspects and hopefully will create a piece that viewers of the exhibition wouldn't be able to avoid talking about due to its nature of being such a massive topic.

The Statistic that I will depict is that;

Out of 445 million new mobile phones that are created in the mobile phone industry every single year only 49 million of these phones are recycles and with the vast majority do not get properly disposed of and are either in the 180 millions phones that go to landfall each year or in the 216 million that are simply forgotten about.

Although it is desired that the piece takes an infographic standpoint in which it will use visual depictions to display information it also will still have to be part of an exhibition meaning that it will have to come down to an equal balance between conveying information and fitting in with the art that will surround it.
