After the stage prior to this in which various analog methods were used to create the base blocks from which the designing stage of the whole campaign would be built, it was now time to begin this designing stage.
The first step was to take the pig outlines that were drawn in the prior stage and digitalise them for use in the project, to achieve this the image strike tool was used to turn the scanned in drawings in to vector shapes, enabling them for use in the designing stage. This was her far the best way to attempt this due to the nature of the simple black outlines shape as the image trace tool finds it very easy to convert this to a vector shape.
After using this tool the scanned in drawing that was created earlier now instead was comprised of vector shapes, this is a vital stage as rather than using a pixelated image in the deist stage this allowed the shape to be used across the designing stage and blown up to any size due to the nature of a vector and how they work. It was then time to expand the newly traced image which converts it from one vectorised image and breaks it down in to smaller vector shapes allowing for them to be edited.
As it had already been decided that the vector drawing on the right would be the one that is taken further in to the final design tagged fro the brief the rambling unneeded image trace results were deleted as they wouldn't be needed, leaving only the vectorised drawing of the illustration desired.
The final stage to prepare this illustration for use in the design work was to use the fill od the vector shape to comprise the actually illustration, this was easily achieved just by changing the fill colour of the shape to black and then the illustration was completed and ready for the design stage. All imperfections that are inevitable through the scanning and drawing stage were no able to be corrected, but this wasn't entirely that important or challenging as these rough and hand rendered aesthetic was perfect for the direction the project was going in.
The next step was to digitalise the other analog creation that had been produced in the earlier stage of this brief and this was the grass feature that were to be used on the packaging, similarly to the prior stage they were also placed in to my Illustrator mood-board, to be digitalised and then taken in to the final stages of the design process. Similarly to the last stage the image trace functions used to turn the watercolour painting in to a vectorised shape, enabling to it be used in the digital design stages. Differently to the earlier mention used, it wasn't going to be as basic a process due to the nature of the colours and shade used in the drawings so instead of using the basic image trace feature, an alternative method was used in which it uses the same process to convert the analog in to a digital rendering but instead it splits the image up in to 16 different colours enabling painting with shading and layers to be created.
After completing this new style of image trace the process the features similar aspects to the first method, the newly vectorised painting is then expanded in to various smaller vector shapes and the unwanted white shapes are deleted leave only the grass painting go which is fully editable and ready for the designing stage.
After this a mood-board was created in which the digital elements that would be taken forward in to the final design stage, in which help the small pig illustrations that had been designed in the earlier stages, the original high quality Orchard Pig logo to be used on the packaging of the project and all typography needed to design the packaging for the bottle and keg packaging. This meant that it was now time to begin the final stage before completing the packaging design.
The final stage was to compete the individual pig illustration that would be applied to each bottle and keg clip, as each of these will be different depending on which cider it is applying to it was necessary to create one for each of the different types of cider. Each illustration will feature the name of each individual cider whether it be bottle of draft and will include a small description of the cider itself. The type will fit inside the illustration by using an almost expressive type style in which the typography is edited so that it fits with the outline of the pig illustrations and below will show the description of this design process.
The typography is placed within the illustration of the pig and resized so that it fits in to illustration as accurately as possible, the typography was then expanded so that rather than type, which can be hard to format it now instead was comprised of vectors making the typography easily editable. The individual letters were repositioned so that they fit almost to the outline of the illustration preparing them for the next stage of the process.

In order to complete the editing and eventually make the typography fit better with the constraints of the illustration a tool called an envelope warp is used to edit this typography, the mesh method is most preferred with this style of work, the envelope mash is applied to the typography using a single row so that only the vertical height of the typography can be edited, using more rows allows for the typography to be edited horizontally but this is necessary for the process desired for this project. The column value is related to the number of letters within the word so that it splits the typography in to ten different sections in which would allow each letter be edited to make it fit to the constraints of the illustration.
The pants within the envelope mesh make it very easy to edit the typography so that it fits perfectly with the outline of the pig illustration and gives the desired effect very quickly.
Now that this all of this designing stage has been finished the end product was a digital moodpboard of which help all of the elements needed to comprise the packaging of the final outcome for the camping. This digital mood-baord would make the whole project very easy as rather than designing as going along instead all of the digital elements were already finished it was just a job of positioning and formatting the digital elements in to the final packaging products.
