OUGD503 - YCN - Orchard Pig - Drawing & Painting Development

To begin the designing stage of this project the first stage before heading straight to the computer was to draw, paint and sketch a few aspects of which would help in the designing stage. It had been decided that the designs will all follow a simple, friendly and welcoming aesthetic coupled with a cheeky and mischievous sound. This welcoming and personable aspect would not go well with very bold and brash digital aesthetic and so instead it was decided that they will instead incorporate a much more hand-rendered bespoke aesthetic a this further enforces the welcoming feel.

As this was the design directs that the uni was going it it was immediately apparent that rather than jumping in to the design it would be better to instead practice with some mixed media methods of which could be used in the design stage. After outlining the direction in which these designs would be best to go the first step was the draw out some outlines of the orchard pig that could be used as aspects of the design, and to go along side this I also completed some water colour grass scenes as it had already been outlined that I wanted the campaign to include these.

This overall hand rendered aesthetic using hand drawn illustrations and mixed media aspects such as water colours mean that the typography for the project was going to be a very important choice, more than usual as the use of a digital typeface that doesn't contradict the hand rendered aesthetic would be the most vital choice of the whole designing stage. Although the project was going to be entered around this hand drawn aesthetic it would only be made of of these aspects, the whole layout and design side will be finalised through digital means, but incorporating these analog aspects.
